Choosing firefighting equipment for a farm or rural property is an important decision. You want a system that matches your property, water needs, available space, and emergency plan.
Valley Implement currently offers two Enduraplas options in its fire suppression collection: the Fire Ranger™ and Foam Ranger™. Both are pickup-mounted firefighting sprayers, but they are designed with different spray systems.
So, which one should you choose?
What Is the Fire Ranger?
The Fire Ranger™ is a water-only firefighting sprayer.
It uses an Easy-Start™ Honda GX160 5.5 HP engine, Power-Head water pump, and Flame-Slayer™ nozzle. It is available in 250- and 400-gallon configurations.
The current specifications list a 120 GPM flow rate and 100 PSI pressure. The 250-gallon version has a dry weight of 458 pounds, while the 400-gallon version has a dry weight of 541 pounds.
This makes the Fire Ranger a straightforward choice for someone looking for a water-based fire suppression skid sprayer.
What Is the Foam Ranger?
The Foam Ranger™ provides both water and foam capability.
It uses a Honda GX160 5.5 HP engine, centrifugal pump, Air-Induct™ nozzle, and Easy-Store™ foam tank. It is also available in 250- and 400-gallon capacities.
The Foam Ranger's listed dry weights are 493 pounds for the 250-gallon version and 576 pounds for the 400-gallon version. It has a 120 GPM flow rate, 100 PSI pressure, and 100 feet of hose.
Fire Ranger vs Foam Ranger
Here is the simple difference:
Choose the Fire Ranger™ if your priority is a water-only system and you want a simpler setup.
Consider the Foam Ranger™ if you want the additional option of applying firefighting foam along with water.
The choice should also consider the type of property you are protecting, your emergency plan, available water sources, vehicle payload, and local fire-safety requirements.
What About the 250- and 400-Gallon Options?
Both models are available in 250- and 400-gallon versions. The larger tank provides more onboard water but also adds weight.
That means you should check the payload rating of the pickup and make sure the fully loaded system is appropriate for the vehicle.
Do not choose a tank size based only on whether the empty skid physically fits in the truck.
A Practical Way to Decide
Ask yourself:
- Do I need water only or water plus foam?
- What size pickup will carry the system?
- What is the vehicle's safe payload?
- How much water do I want available?
- How close is professional emergency response?
- What type of fire risk does my property have?
If you are still unsure, review the Fire and Foam Ranger FAQ before purchasing. It answers common questions about the two systems, capacities, pumps, spray distance, and external water sources.
Final Thoughts
Both products are designed for rapid-response firefighting needs, but they serve slightly different purposes.
The Fire Ranger™ focuses on water-only spraying, while the Foam Ranger™ adds foam capability. Compare the specifications carefully and choose the system that fits your property and emergency plan.
